Description

Za’atar Manakish is a traditional Levantine flatbread topped with a mixture of za’atar spices and olive oil.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup za’atar spice mix
  • 2 tablespoons additional olive oil for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into small balls.
  7. Roll each ball into a flat circle.
  8. Mix za’atar with olive oil to create a paste.
  9. Spread the za’atar mixture on each flatbread.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
