South African Bobotie is a savory dish made with minced beef and topped with a spiced egg custard.

- 500g minced beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 slice of bread, soaked in milk
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 1 tablespoon apricot jam
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
- Add minced beef and cook until browned.
- Mix in curry powder, apricot jam, vinegar, salt, pepper, bread, and raisins.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
- Pour the egg mixture over the meat.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until set and golden on top.
Notes
- Serve with yellow rice and chutney.
- Can be made with lamb or chicken.
