Description
Idli are soft, fluffy steamed rice cakes popular in South Indian cuisine.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of rice
- 1 cup of urad dal (split black gram)
- 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Soak the rice and urad dal with fenugreek seeds in water for 6-8 hours.
- Drain the soaked ingredients and blend them into a smooth batter, adding water as needed.
- Ferment the batter overnight or for 8-12 hours until it rises.
- Add salt to the batter and mix well.
- Grease idli molds and pour the batter into them.
- Steam the molds for about 10-15 minutes until cooked.
- Remove the idlis and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
Notes
- Ensure the batter is well fermented for fluffier idlis.
- You can use a pressure cooker or an idli steamer for steaming.
- Adjust the fermentation time based on the room temperature.
