Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups (240 g) all‑purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) purple food coloring (gel or liquid)
- Optional: 1/4 cup (30 g) dried cranberries or purple grapes, chopped
- Optional: 1/4 cup (30 g) white chocolate chips for a sweet finish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Beat the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Divide the dough into two portions. Add the purple food coloring to one portion and mix until the dough turns a deep, even purple. Leave the other portion plain for a subtle contrast.
- Fold in the optional dried cranberries or grapes into the purple dough, and the white chocolate chips into the plain dough if desired.
- Using a tablespoon or a small cookie scoop, drop dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look set.
- Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use a high‑quality purple food coloring; gel colors give a richer hue than liquid.
- Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added—overmixing can make the cookies tough.
- For a chewier cookie, bake on the lower end of the time range and let them cool fully.
- If you prefer a crispier edge, bake a minute or two longer, watching closely.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
