- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (or whole milk with 1 tbsp vinegar)
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- ½ lb ground beef
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Colby Jack)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (optional for topping)
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional for topping)
- ½ tsp dried parsley (optional for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Drain grease, then stir in shredded cheese.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Stir in buttermilk until just combined — do not overmix.
- Pour the melted butter into the baking dish. Spread half the dough into the dish.
- Evenly spoon the beef and cheese mixture over the dough layer.
- Spread the remaining dough over the top of the filling.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.
- Optional: Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley and brush over the top after baking.
- Let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.

- Use fresh shredded cheese for better melting.
- You can substitute ground turkey or a plant-based meat for a lighter version.
