Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can stewed tomatoes
- 1½ cups water (optional for thinner consistency)
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (plus more to taste)
- 1 pinch garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, add ground beef and chopped onion. Cook and stir until meat is browned and onion is tender, about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes with their juice.
- If desired, add 1½ cups water for a thinner texture.
- Season the mixture with chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the chili to a gentle boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure all flavors combine beautifully.
- Serve hot, and garnish with cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier chili, add diced jalapeños, chipotle peppers, or a few dashes of hot sauce.
- If you’re looking for a healthier chili, swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken.
- Customize with more vegetables, such as bell peppers, zucchini, or corn for extra flavor and color.
